Networking with benefits…

Networking with benefits…

09 Sep 2019

How many times have you found yourself at a networking event that feels just like a networking event?

I’m sure you know what I mean; a load of people all wearing name tags, desperate to dish out as many business cards as possible and not really interested in anything you have to say unless it’s offering them some work.

Let me tell you now, those are not the events where real networking happens.

At Opendoorz we know that networking done properly, not only helps you to grow your business but brings with it a whole host of benefits for personal and professional development.

Creating that perfect environment where real networking takes place is something we put a huge amount of effort into. From the physical locations to the structure of the meetings and from the calibre of the members to the social events - all contribute to creating that perfect networking environment where relationships flourish and business takes place over and over again.

Our members tell us often about the wider benefits they get from being part of Opendoorz and we thought they were worth sharing. Have a read and think about whether your current networking offers all of these benefits.

Challenge – Support – Advice

Who challenges you if you are at the top of your business? It’s very easy to be surrounded by ‘pleasers’ when you’re the boss– after all you pay their wages!

Within Opendoorz members use their peers, to explore ideas, new initiatives, or issues they may be having within their business in a confidential environment. Because we are selective over the calibre of our membership we can provide a ‘board room’ of equals where peers can challenge your assumptions, push your boundaries and celebrate your successes. The quality of the conversation and the depth of the collective wisdom and experience is one of the most commonly commented on features by people visiting our guest meetings.

Collaborations

True networkers look for the opportunities not the competition. Many people are fearful of spending time with other industries that are the same or similar to them but finding collaborators can really add value to your business and the service you offer your clients.

Here at Opendoorz we absolutely know that the key to building a valuable professional business network where strong collaborations form does not lie in volume, but in bringing together quality people who think alike and have businesses of a similar calibre.

We see our members’ businesses growing time and again after they’ve formed collaborative working partnerships with other members.

Quality recommendations

Being able to recommend a supplier or service provider to one of your clients that you know will deliver time and time again not only means your clients are thrilled, but also adds to your business’ credibility and reputation.

The quality of the relationships developed between Opendoorz members means they have a much greater confidence in recommending each other to their own clients and connections.

“Most of my clients are people moving into Oxfordshire and it is essential that I am able to recommend businesses and services to them that I personally know and trust. Opendoorz has provided me with the support and opportunity to do just that” Stephen Wolfenden – Director, Country Home Search

Personal Development

We never stop learning and successful business professionals are committed to regularly sharpening their skills and even learning new ones. Continuous professional development (CPD) is essential and very empowering but hard if you are trying to do it on your own through books or podcasts, etc.

CPD is an essential feature of Opendoorz meetings. There is a wealth of knowledge in the room that means we all have something to give and we have plenty to learn!

“I was really impressed with the overall structure of the meetings which not only meant that some great relationships were being made but the level of quality learning was great” Opendoorz guest.

Being part of local business community

Oxfordshire has a vibrant local business community where good practise, innovation and opportunities are shared and encouraged. Through Opendoorz our members are able to access and become part of this community. We have a culture of sharing and opening up our own communities to our fellow members and we regularly hear of members taking part in other events and activities together. This helps to give your business a strong voice in the community.

Essential, in our view, to being part of the community, is supporting local charities. The benefits are clear in terms of fundraising on their behalf but the benefits for individual businesses shouldn’t be underestimated. Generosity of spirit in becoming involved in the activities they have planned, organising your own and opening your connections to them brings a glow to all involved. At Opendoorz we have a charity of the year but once we’ve become involved, we find it impossible to just let go. We’ve formed strong relationships and have gone on to become Ambassadors for a number of charities close to our hearts. Over the last 5 years Opendoorz members have raised more than £100,000.

Friendship

Spending time with people on a regular basis, especially in an exclusive membership-based group, such as Opendoorz, means it’s inevitable that genuine friendships develop. Our members regularly exercise, socialise and even go on holiday together!

At Opendoorz, we are selective when choosing our locations. Our venues are stylish, buzzy and vibrant which creates the right atmosphere for building long term relationships that are not only valuable but a whole lot of fun!

Connections

To grow a business you need to draw on the experiences of others to contribute to your knowledge base and help you open doors to key partners or clients.

The Opendoorz guest event happens once a month within each group and helps members expand business networks, make new connections and develop strong relationships. It’s an opportunity to rub shoulders with ambitious business owners, directors, partners and senior managers as well as learn something new both during the meeting and in the bar afterwards!

If you are a company owner, Director or partner and would like the opportunity to step out of the day to day running and managing of your business to reap the rewards and benefits of valuable networking opportunities in Oxfordshire and Berkshire we’d love you to join us as our guest.
